ELPLAST in Foodbev Media

Elplast – the manufacturer of the press-to-close El-Zip zipper – has invested in a new European facility in Poland to help meet customer demand.

Equipped with leading technology in reclose manufacturing, the 9,000 square metre plant will run at a capacity of 2 billion metres from 2017 and provide unprecedented levels of food hygiene and quality procedures, Elplast said.

Elplast president Marcin Pawelak commented: “This considerable investment in our European facility underlines our commitment to providing the best products. Elplast continually monitors the needs of our customers and we identify that excellent levels of product quality, vast capacity and outstanding food hygiene standards are part of that.”

The new facility will benefit from automated polymer delivery to its 30 production lines. The lines include conveyors and auto roll changers to minimise hand contact with the finished El-Zip products, which will then depart from a dedicated goods-out facility.

Each hygiene and quality element of the new European facility is designed to be “future-proof”; Elplast is the only press-to-close zip manufacturer to install an air-locked production area and schedule employee health checks to minimise human contact with the product, it claimed, while the plant’s design also includes water and air treatment zones.

Elplast marketing and innovation director Caine Folkes-Miller concluded: “Our state-of-the-art facility contains a host of world firsts in zipper manufacture. It is simply the best-in-class in regards to levels of hygiene and quality.”

It is the second plant that Elplast has inaugurated this year, having already opened a 2,700 square metre facility in the US as part of its wider ambition to scale in line with increasing customer demand.
